Incomplete markets, ambiguity, and irreversible investment

چکیده

The problem of irreversible investment with idiosyncratic risk is studied by interpreting market incompleteness as a source of ambiguity over the appropriate no-arbitrage discount factor. The maxmin utility over multiple priors framework is used to model and solve the irreversible investment problem. Multiple priors are modeled using the notion of k-ignorance. This set-up is used to analyze finitely lived options. For infinitely lived options the notion of constant k-ignorance is introduced. For these sets of density generators the corresponding optimal stopping problem is solved for general (in-)finite horizon optimal stopping problems driven by geometric Brownian motion. It is argued that an increase in the set of priors delays investment, whereas an increase in the degree of market completeness can have a non-monotonic effect on investment. & 2010 Elsevier B.V. Incomplete Financial Markets , Irreversibility of Investments , and Fiscal and Monetary Policy Instruments

In this paper, we analyze the use of fiscal and monetary instruments to improve long-run welfare when productive investment is irreversible and uncollateralizable and there is no insurance. Only fiat money or government-issued bonds provide self-insurance. We demonstrate that an increase in precautionary savings reduces irreversible productive investment. Hence, subsidies to promote productive ...

Earnings Announcement Premium and Information Ambiguity

In today's investment world there is emphasis on the role of accounting information. Behavioral factors always play an important role in financial markets. All investors are not rational and their demand for riskiness of assets is influenced by their beliefs and feelings. This paper revisits the macroeconomic effects of government consumption in the neoclassical growth model augmented with idiosyncratic investment (or entrepreneurial) risk. Under complete markets, a permanent increase in government consumption has no long-run effect on the interest rate, the capital-labor ratio, and labor productivity, while it increases work hours due to the familiar negative w...

CSEM WP 164 An Equilibrium Model of Investment in Restructured Electricity Markets

In this paper, we describe a framework for modeling investment in restructured electricity markets. This framework is extremely flexible, and is designed to be able to capture many of the key considerations that distinguish investment in deregulated electricity markets from both investment in regulated markets, and investment in competitive markets for other commodities. The model is composed o...

Investment decisions and normalization with incomplete markets: a remark∗ DP 9828

Profit maximization is not a well defined objective when markets are incomplete. Several criteria of investment choice have therefore been put forward in the literature, some of which crucially hinge upon aggregation of shareholders’ preferences, as is the case with the criteria proposed by Drèze (1974) and Grossman and Hart (1979). This note shows that these criteria are normalization dependen...
